THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the state witnessing a decline in Covid cases, the government is considering lifting restrictions in the state. Although the restrictions, including mask mandate in public places, will not be lifted immediately, the government is considering lifting other restrictions.
The third wave of Covid came under control in the second week of February. Moreover, the state was able to control the spread of the third wave and ensure that the situation did not go out of control. Following this, schools in the state reopened on February 14. The government announced that the normal functioning of educational institutions will begin next week. It has also announced ease of restrictions for commercial establishments, malls and places of worship. Up to 1,500 people can attend weddings and funerals. Cultural events can be held in connection with festivals. With life beginning to return to normal, the government is considering slowly lifting the restrictions. The TPR in the state is below 8 per cent. Hopefully, the state will get rid of Covid spread within a month. Theatres and bars may be allowed to operate at 100 per cent capacity. Meanwhile, the Centre has directed the states and union territories to ease restrictions as the number of Covid cases in the country is declining.
The Centre said hospitals should be ready for emergency services at any time and restrictions could be relaxed after scrutinizing the situation. Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla's guidelines stated that the use of masks, social distance, hygiene and ventilation in closed spaces should continue to remain mandatory.
