VITHURA: A 12-year-old boy died after falling from the sixth floor of the quarters in the Vithura IISER campus. Dathan, the eldest son of Dr Madhu Thalakkulam, an associate professor in the Department of Physics at IISER, and Chaya, met with his tragic demise on Saturday. The accident happened at around 5 pm yesterday while he was playing in the C1 flat in the campus. At the time of the incident, the mother and the younger child were out shopping. His father was attending a study class in Germany.

Neighbours saw the child fall from the top of the building. He was rushed to the Vithura Government Taluk Hospital by ambulance but could not save his life. The body was shifted to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital mortuary. Relatives said the funeral would be held after his father returns from Germany. Dathan did not go to school as he was mentally challenged.
