THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister Veena George said that the Health Department has issued alert in all districts in the event of extreme temperatures due to climate change. The district medical officers were instructed on the basis of reports received from some districts.

Meanwhile, the Department of Labor has rescheduled the working hours of labourers till April 30 to prevent them from getting sunburn. Those who work in the sun will have a rest period from 12 noon to 3 pm. They will have 8 hours of working hours between 7 am and 7 pm.

Arrangements should be made in such a way that the morning shift of those working in the sun must end at 12 pm while the afternoon shift of people working in the sun must begin at 3 pm. Employers must follow the instructions exactly. Legal action will be taken against those who do not follow these instructions, the Labor Commissioner said.

Sunstroke

Symptoms

Very high body temperature, severe headache, dizziness, slow pulse, mood swings. Unconsciousness may also occur. The services of a doctor should be sought immediately.

Sunburn

Symptoms

Fatigue, dizziness, headache, muscle cramps, nausea and vomiting, abnormal sweating, severe thirst, decreased urine output and dark yellow color, fainting. If left untreated, it can lead to sunstroke.
