NEW DELHI: India will continue its neutral stance in the UN General Assembly, which convenes on Monday, to pass a resolution calling to end the war in Ukraine. India had earlier abstained from voting on the resolution that condemned Russian aggression against Ukraine.
India had asked to resolve the issue through discussions. “India is deeply disturbed by the recent turn of developments in Ukraine. No solution can ever be arrived at the cost of human lives. Dialogue is the only answer to settling differences and disputes, however daunting that may appear at this moment”, said T S Tirumurti, India’s permanent UN representative.
Countries namely India, China and UAE had abstained from voting in the UNSC resolution against Russia. 11 countries including the US had voted in favour of the resolution. The resolution was not passed as Russia, a permanent member of the UNSC, vetoed it.
