SANAA: The verdict on the plea of Nimisha Priya, a Malayalee awaiting death sentence in the case of murdering a citizen of Yemen, will be pronounced today. A three-member bench will consider her plea seeking commutation in death sentence on grounds of being a woman. The verdict will be pronounced at 1.30 pm (Indian time).
The case against Nimisha, a native of Palakkad and a nurse is that she murdered Talal Abdu Mahadi, a Yemeni national, chopped the body into pieces and then hid it in a water tank. The case happened on July 25 in 2017. Mahadi promised to help Nimisha start her own clinic. However, Nimisha said he cheated her financially. He subjected her to brutal harassment.
To prove that he had married her, he fabricated fake proofs and also confiscated her passport. Following that, she murdered him by injecting overdose of drugs on the instructions of her colleague, Hanan, a Yemeni woman and another youth.
A lower court in Yemen sentenced her to death. Her colleague Hanan is also facing trial. The case is that Hanan helped her in hiding the body pieces into the water tank. Her husband in Palakkad and her seven-year-old daughter are praying hoping her death sentence to be commuted.
