KYIV: When Russia is continuing attacks on the fifth day and capturing major cities one by one, the fighting spirit of the Ukrainians cannot be destroyed. Thousands of Ukrainians are joining forces to defend their country from enemies, including women and the elderly. This includes former Ukrainian president, athletes and politicians. The people of Ukraine, Europe's second largest country, are not hiding in fear of war, but many are joining the armed forces in solidarity with President Zelenskiy's words that will never surrender. The people of Ukraine have the same fighting spirit as Zelenskiy, who rejected US promise to take them out safely from Ukraine. Shortly before the start of the invasion, the Ukrainian government passed a law allowing citizens to use weapons in self-defence. In addition, about 18,000 guns were distributed to the people of the capital, Kiev alone, and men between the ages of 18 and 60 were barred from leaving the country. After this, thousands of people came with weapons.

“How long do you think you can hold out?”

“Forever.”

Former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko had also come forward with weapons to oust Russia. Poroshenko, who ruled Ukraine from 2014 to 2019, confirmed that Putin will never be able to occupy Ukraine. He expressed his patriotism in an interview with the international media.

The pictures of a young couple who was to get married this year and got married earlier were seen holding guns to fight for the country, had gone viral. 21-year-old Yareena and 24-year-old Siviyadosla took the courageous decision to fight for the country.

Another sight of an 80-year-old Ukrainian citizen going to war to secure the future of his grandchildren brings tears.
