THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KPCC president K Sudhakaran MP said that there was a mystery over the incident where a youth died while in custody at the Thiruvallom police station. "The police are claiming that the youth was rushed to the hospital soon after he complained of chest pain. This is not credible. The truth will come out only when the post mortem report surfaces," Sudhakaran said.
Sudhakaran, who opined that the post-mortem should be done in the presence of a magistrate, added that it was appropriate to conduct a judicial inquiry into the incident.
"People who are taken into police custody are usually subjected to medical examination. In this case too, the deceased underwent a medical examination. However, the medical examination did not show that he had any health issues. If the youth had any health issues, then why was he not shifted to the hospital instead of being kept in police custody?" Sudhakaran asked.
The KPCC president said that the police did not rush the youth to Medical College even after he complained of chest pain. He also alleged that the police took the youth to a private hospital in order to escape from the custodial death allegation.
