MOSCOW: As Russia's invasion of Ukraine continues, peace talks in Belarus didn't make much progress. With this, the hope that the atmosphere of aggression would ease dwindled.

Ukraine has called for an immediate end to the Russian military offensive. The country has also asked for immediate membership in the European Union. During the talks, Russia reiterated that they wouldn't agree on any compromise that would harm the security of their country.

The talks, which began at 1 pm Ukrainian time, were attended by high-level officials from both countries. The discussion lasted five and a half hours.

Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin and later to Ukrainian President Zelensky over the phone and called for a ceasefire.

The UN General Assembly is urgently convening in New York today. The United States will bring a resolution calling for Russia's withdrawal of troops from Ukrainian. Russia had vetoed it in the UN Security Council.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has canceled a trip to attend the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva today following a ban on Russian flights by Western nations. Following this, Russia imposed sanctions on 36 countries, including Germany, on their airspace.
