KOCHI: The CPM state meet got underway at Kochi Marine Drive. The meet started with the hoisting of the flag by Ananthalawattam Anandan, a senior leader of the state secretariat. The delegates session was inaugurated by general secretary Sitaram Yechury.
State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan will present the party’s activity report. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will be presenting the policy report. About 400 delegates from different districts are attending the conference. There will be a public discussion on Wednesday and a discussion on the development document on Thursday. The meet will conclude on Friday. The concluding session will be inaugurated by the chief minister.
The state meet also has the distinction of paving the way for generational change in the state assembly by bringing the age limit of 75 years. When the age limit of 75 years is made strict, prominent veterans like Vaikom Viswan, Ananthalavattom Anandan, M M Mani and G Sudhakaran will be dropped from the committee this time.
Meantime, it is heard that the chief minister and G Sudhakaran may be granted exemption. However, G Sudhakaran has written to the CPM state secretary and chief minister asking to drop him from the state committee.
