KYIV: An Indian student has been killed in Russia’s shelling in Ukraine’s Kharkiv. The dead has been identified as Naveen Kumar, a native of Karnataka and a fourth year medical student. The ministry of external affairs said they are in touch with the family of the student who died in the shelling in Kharkiv. The ministry of external affairs has condoled the death of the student.

Kumar was killed in the shelling Tuesday morning, the Ministry of External Affairs said. Foreign affairs secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said efforts have been taken to speed up the procedures to fly home the Indian students stranded in Kharkiv at the earliest. The foreign secretary is calling in ambassadors of Russia and Ukraine to reiterate our demand for urgent safe passage for Indians who are still in Kharkiv and cities in other conflict zones, said Arindam Bagchi, spokesperson of ministry of external affairs.
