NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has granted bail to Kiran Kumar, the accused in Vismaya dowry death case. The defendant's side had approached the Supreme Court seeking bail of seven days. The apex court allowed the petition and granted regular bail to Kiran Kumar.

The court rejected the Kerala government's claim that granting bail to the accused would influence witnesses. However, the court ruled that Kiran's bail conditions can be decided by the trial court.

Vismaya was found hanging on June 21 last year at her husband's house in Poruvazhi in Sasthamkotta. Vismaya's husband Kiran Kumar, who was arrested in the case, is still in jail. According to the chargesheet, Vismaya committed suicide following dowry abuse. The chargesheet was filed under nine sections, including abetment to suicide.
