MANGALURU: In a tragic incident, a 17-year-old girl who mistook rat poison for toothpaste and brushed her teeth died. The deceased have been identified as Sravya, a native of Mangaluru. On February 14, Shravya, while brushing her teeth before retiring to bed,accidentally applied rat poison on her brush instead of toothpaste. However, she realised her mistake soon after and rinsed her mouth with water. Although, she appeared to be fine the next day, she was admitted to a hospital in Puthur due to stomach ache on February 17. she breathed her last at a private hospital in Mangaluru.

The paste and brush were kept together near the bathroom window. Rat poison was also accidentally placed nearby. As the room was dark, the she mistook rat poison for toothpaste.

Sravya, a pre-university student of Puthur College, came home after her college declared a holiday in the wake of the hijab contoversy.
