A fourth-year MBBS student, Naveen Sekharappa Jnanagoudar was unexpectedly killed in Ukraine on Tuesday as Operation Ganga, a project to evacuate Indians in Ukraine following the Russian invasion, was in progress. Naveen, was hit by a Russian missile while he went out to buy breakfast. His death has shocked the country.

The war, which was supposed to end in three or four days, has been extended due to fierce resistance from Ukraine. Russia began the war on the pretext that it would be easy to conquer Ukraine as it is a weak country. But things are moving in a different way. They have not yet been able to take full control of cities, including the capital, Kyiv. Russia's army, which is mainly focused on air strikes, is moving to cities, including Kyiv, with large contingents. This is a sign which shows that war is going to intensify more.

As the war intensifies, Indian students are anxiously waiting to get shelter for safety. As per sources, almost all of the students who were in Kiev have moved out as per Indian Embassy's instructions. Students who are in other cities are also trying to cross the border to reach safer countries. But reports states that students who are away from the border are struggling hard to reach safer positions. India has appointed four ministers to the border countries to facilitate the evacuation process. Apart from passenger planes, India also sends military planes to repatriate Indian students who reach Romania, Poland and Slovakia. This will be possible only with the help of the Russian and Ukrainian governments. Every step must be taken with utmost care so that another life will not be lost. Exit from current safe place should only be in accordance with Embassy guidelines.

As Russia prepares to intensify the war, many shocking events will happen. Before that, the big challenge for the central government is to bring all students safely out of Ukraine. Parents are anxiously waiting for their children.
