THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Despite the High Command's order to halt the reorganization process, the crisis in the state Congress did not ease yesterday as KPCC president K Sudhakaran insisted that the reorganization must take place. Sudhakaran, who is dissatisfied with the High Command's intervention, is reportedly preparing to meet Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in person to explain things. He had shared with many that there was no point in continuing as KPCC president if he could not exercise his power.
Meanwhile, there are indications that the Leader of the Opposition VD Satheesan will take the initiative to find an amicable solution to the crisis. Satheesan had a meeting with Sudhakaran last night. Satheesan said that he had no issues with Sudhakaran and that the decisions of Congress were not taken by one single individual. Sudhakaran is also in touch with other senior leaders of the party. It is learned that KC Venugopal had a discussion with Sudhakaran yesterday.
Sudhakaran and his associates suspect that a new alliance is emerging in the party centring on Venugopal. Most of the MPs who have complained to the High Command about the reorganization are close to Venugopal.
Sudhakaran said that the shortlist for the reorganization was prepared after detailed discussions with leaders including Oommen Chandy and Ramesh Chennithala. He also asked why no one expressed a difference of opinion back then. He is also outraged that MPs have complained to the national leadership without directly discussing with him.
Although KC Venugopal is the AICC general secretary in charge of the organization, there are indications that he is making efforts to enter state politics in the near future. The old A and I factions are anticipating this and planning to move together. Therefore, they are likely to give silent support to K Sudhakaran.
