KYIV: An employee of a Bangladeshi freight ship died after a Russian-launched missile hit the ship stranded at an Ukrainian port. The missile struck the MV Banglar Samriddhi, a bulk carrier anchored in the Ukrainian northern Black Sea port of Olvia. The front of the ship, which was built in 2018, was severely damaged.

The Ukrainian Ports Administration has confirmed that the ship was hit by a missile. Russia and Bangladesh have not yet commented on the incident.

There were earlier concerns that the Russian invasion of Ukraine could increase the risk to ships and sailors in the Black Sea. At least two ships have been shelled by Russian forces since the start of the Russian invasion. An Indian student who came to study medicine in Ukraine was also killed in Russian attack.

According to Ukrainian media, the moment of the explosion from a missile attack on the BANGLAR SAMRIDDHU ship was caught on video.#StopPutinNOW #StopWarInUkraine #StopPutin #UkrianeWar #RussianUkrainianWar #Ukraine #UkraineRussianWar #Bangladesh #PutinWarCriminal pic.twitter.com/Np9BBTmSlh
