NEW DELHI: As the Congress is weakening in the country, the party has devised new election strategies for a revamp. The party leaders are trying to strengthen the party following the recent defeats in polls. Congress has appointed a new election strategist in the wake of the ongoing elections in five states.
Sunil Kanugolu, a former associate of election strategist Prashant Kishor, has been tasked with the role of Congress’ campaign planner in the coming elections. Sunil Kanugolu had worked with Prashant Kishor in his election consultancy group Indian Political Action Committe (I-PAC). The party had revealed Kanugolu’s appointment following a meeting with Rahul Gandhi. According to party sources, he will be overseeing the legislative assembly polls in 2023.
As an associate of Kishor, Kanugolu had worked with the BJP, DMK, AIADMK and Akali Dal. Soon after the election victory in Bengal, Congress leaders such as Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, had held talks with Kishor. Months later, Kishor reacted against Congress and Rahul Gandhi, several times, revealing that the talks had failed. Neither Congress nor Kishor have said why the talks failed. Recently, Kishor has been distancing himself from his consultancy I-PAC.
