KOCHI: The Enforcement Directorate has seized assets worth Rs 7.5 crore, including six and a half kilograms of gold from three Military Engineering Services (MES) dignitaries who received commissions worth crores from contractors. The ED office in Kochi confiscated assets worth Rs 7,47,05,700 belonging to Rakesh Kumar Garg, Sanjeev Khanna and Sanjeev Kumar Agarwal, former MES chief engineers of the Kochi Naval Base.

Among the confiscated assets, Rs 4,01,98,500 is in cash and 6.636 kg of gold is worth Rs. 3,45,07,200 which Rakesh Kumar Garg, Kanav Khanna, Sanjeev Khanna and Sanjeev Agarwal have received as commission since becoming chief engineers in 2017. The action was taken in a case registered by the CBI in 2018. The CBI found that Rakesh Kumar Garg, Pushkar Bhasin, Prabhul Jain, Kanav Khanna, Sanjeev Khanna, Subodh Jain, Chanchal Jain and Sanjeev Agarwal, both North Indians, bought one percent of the contract money as commission from construction contractors of the Military Engineering Service.

Proceedings against the other accused in the case are ongoing.
