NEW DELHI: The foreign medical students, who were unable to complete their internships due to situations beyond their control such as Covid-19 or Ukraine war, can complete their training in India, said a circular released by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
The regulatory body of medical education in the country has informed that those students, who have passed the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) conducted by the National Board of Examinations, can send their internship applications to the state medical councils. The medical students who were unable to complete their internships due to Covid-19 or war, should utilise the opportunity, said the NMC. The move comes in as a relief for the Indian students in Ukraine, who had to drop their courses mid-way due to the Russian invasion. Thousands of students have returned home on the planes arranged by the central government, following the Russian attacks.
“The state medical councils should ensure the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) conducted by the National Board of Examination (NBE) should be cleared by the candidates seeking registration in India. If the candidate is found fulfilling criteria, provisional registration may be granted by the state medical councils for a 12 months' internship or balance period, as the case may be”, said the circular.
