KOTHAMANGALAM: A man committed suicide by setting him ablaze at the house where his wife and relatives are staying on a rental basis. The deceased has been identified as Binu (35), a native of Idukki. Binu poured self immolated after pouring petrol over his body at around 1.30 pm yesterday in the sit-out area of the house in Colonypadi in Nellimattom in Kannadikode. His wife and family had gone to the ancestral home by this time. The tenants on the top floor of the two-storey house rused downstairs on hearing the screams. Binu died on the spot.
Binu and his wife Saranya fell in love and got married ten years ago. They have an eight-year-old son and were living separately for some time. Binu had a dispute with Saranya, who was working abroad, over the phone, demanding that her son be given to him.
Saranya returned home from abroad a few days ago. Binu then tried several times to see Saranya and his son but could not. Binu had come to the rented house to meet them the other day. They got in an altercation and Binu returned after police intervention. Yesterday, Binu arrived in a car expecting to see his wife and son at the house in Nellimattom. The preliminary assumption is that Binu self-immolated after not being able to see anyone.
The windowpanes have been shattered following the fire. The body was completely burnt in the fire. The body was shifted to Muvattupuzha Taluk Hospital Mortuary for postmortem.
