THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Satheeshan and Prema, hailing from Anappara near Vellarada, took three loans and sent their three children to Ukraine for medical studies in the midst of financial crisis, hoping for a better future for their children. One of them has completed her studies and has returned and is now doing an internship at a general hospital. The war in Ukraine put the studies of the other two in crisis. In addition to worrying about their further studies, they are also concerned about how to repay the loan. They have a debt of around Rs 40 lakh, including the loans taken for their children.
Satheeshan and Prema's sons Anusha, Binusha and Sajith live in a two-room house in six cents of land in Anappara. Binusha and Sajith are studying in Ukraine. Binusha is a final year student and Sajith is a fifth year student. Anusha has completed her course. For Anusha's one - year internship, the parents borrow Rs 1.20 lakh.
Satheeshan, a quarry worker, lost his job due to lockdown. He now runs a vegetable shop near his home. The meager income from this is not enough for anything. Anusha was sent to study in Ukraine with a mortgage of Rs 5 lakh from a backward community corporation and the rest through gold loans. Even the interest on it could not be paid. They received several notices from the corporation asking them to repay the loan. The children's education expenses were met by borrowing from relatives and acquaintances. Binusha's final year exams are scheduled to be held in May. They have not paid the final semester fee of Rs 3.5 lakh.
They have a bank account in Karakkonam. Account Number: 11010100318217
