MALAPPURAM: Muslim League state chief Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal (74), who died yesterday, was laid to rest with full state honours at the Juma Masjid in Panakkad Monday early morning at 2 am. As the people thronged uncontrollably, public homage was ended and the funeral was made earlier. He was laid to rest earlier as the body could not be kept for a long time, informed Saddiqali Thangal.
Panakkad Hamiddali Shihab Thangal led the last prayers. The public homage that started at 3.15 pm at Malappuram Town Hall yesterday ended at 12.30 am in the morning. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, ministers, various party leaders and dignitaries from all walks of life paid their last respects.
He was the vice president of the Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama and the managing director of Chandrika, the IUML mouthpiece. He died Sunday afternoon at 1.40 pm while undergoing treatment for cancer at a private hospital in Angamaly. His wife Fathima Zuhara Beevi and sons were besides him at the time of his death.
