ALAPPUZHA: The Mavelikkara District Additional Sessions Court has sentenced death penalty to 39-year old Labilu Hussain, the first accused in the murder of an elderly couple in Venmony. The court also sentenced life time imprisonment to the second accused, 24-year old Juval Hussain. Both the convicts are Bangladeshi nationals.

AP Cherian and his wife Lillikutty Cherian were found murdered at their house on November 11, 2019. The convicts, who came to work at the couple's house, planned to commit murder after realizing that gold was kept in the house. Both were murdered by hitting in the head. The accused had stolen 45 sovereign gold and Rs 17,000 from the house. Police arrested the suspects from the Visakhapatnam railway station after the incident.

The court ruled that the charges against the accused, including murder, trespassing and robbery, were all proved. The trial began on November 1, 2021. The prosecution had examined 60 witnesses in the case. The trial ended on February 25, 2022.
