THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The draft list of new beneficiaries of Life Mission, a free housing scheme of the state government, cannot be published on March 15. This is the fourth time the list has not been published due to lack of staff to examine the applications. The local self government dept on February 25 had ordered for a super check led by the collectors on the applications which had completed the preliminary examination, but no action has been taken so far. Collectors are required to appoint officers from various departments as required. But the current hurdle is the departments' refusal to release the officers.
In Thiruvananthapuram, one of the districts with the highest number of applicants, 500 employees were deployed but it was reduced to 250 due to opposition from the departments. The situation is similar in other districts. No action was taken to set up an account for the training officers to record the information on the Life Mission website. Employees can obtain a unique user ID and password after this. Although 9.2 lakh people applied, it was halved after the preliminary examination.
The draft list was supposed to be published on December 1, which was postponed several times and later on the date March 15 was confirmed.
