KYIV: A Pakistani student has thanked the Indian embassy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for evacuating her from Ukraine amid the Russian invasion. The Indian embassy in Kyiv had rescued Asma Shafique and her friends from the war-torn Ukraine.
The video of the Pakistani girl, thanking Indian Prime Minster Narendra Modi and the Indian embassy, has gone viral on the social media. ‘I am really thankful to the Indian Embassy of Kyiv and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for evacuating me. Thank you so much for support. I hope to reach home safely’, Asma said in the video.
From the beginning of the Ukraine war, India has been in the forefront for repatriating citizens from Ukraine. Even when some countries including Pakistan abandoned their citizens, the central government of India continued its efforts. Reports had earlier suggested that students from Pakistan and Turkey, stranded in Ukraine, had used Indian flags for escaping from the war zones. They had travelled by chanting “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”. Union Minister G Kishan Reddy had previously announced that the Indian students should paste national flags on their vehicles for ensuring safe journey. The same method was reportedly adopted by some students from Pakistan and Turkey.
When countries, including Pakistan, abandon their own citizens, the Modi government is helping people across borders. Meantime, huge protests erupted in Pakistan, on Tuesday, against Prime Minister Imran Khan’s mismanagement. The protest, attended by thousands, was led by the Pakistan People’s Party. It is noteworthy that the Pakistani student expressed gratitude to Modi around the same time.
