ALAPPUZHA: The incident of electing a murder accused as the DYFI regional vice president has sparked controversy. Antony, an accused sentenced to life imprisonment, has been elected as the regional vice president of Alappuzha Aikyabharatham locality. He is one among the seven accused convicted in the Aju murder case.

According to the Alappuzha district conference report, it has been evaluated that various people undertaking goonda activities have infiltrated the party. Antony was elected as the vice president just days after the conference. The Alappuzha district court had sentenced him with life imprisonment in connection with the Aju murder case, which took place in 2008. The high court also upheld the verdict. Antony is currently released on parole under the prevailing Covid circumstances. Meantime, the CPM Alappuzha district leadership has said that they were not aware of the incident.
