THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the revival package announced in the state budget, KSRTC expects financial assistance of Rs 2000 crore. Prior to Covid, the government provided only pensions. At present, the government has to pay for the distribution of salaries.
In the last budget, Rs 1000 crore was allotted to KSRTC. Although the pension is through co-operative societies, it is given from the money allotted to KSRTC. At the end of the year, new buses were purchased for an additional Rs 50 crore. The budget will also allocate funds for the Grama Vandi project of the Transport Department.

Minister KN Balagopal had said in the last budget that 3,000 KSRTC buses would be converted to CNG. A sum of Rs 100 crore has been sanctioned for the Rs 300 crore project this financial year.
In the 2016 budget, then-Finance Minister Thomas Isaac announced that KSRTC would buy CNG and electric buses, but nothing happened.
