IMPHAL: As the first round results of the legislative polls in Manipur comes out, the BJP is leading in 26 out of 60 assembly seats. Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh is leading in his constituency.
Meantime, the Congress, NPP and Janata Dal (U) are leading in 13, 7 and 5 seats respectively. The counting of votes in the state’s 60 assembly constituencies had begun at 8 am on Thursday. The postal votes from the eastern districts of the state’s capital Imphal, will be counted in the first round. As the BJP tries to retain power, Congress is also hoping for victory. The voting in Manipur took place in two phases on February 28 and March 5.
All the exit poll results were in favour of the BJP and hints are suggesting that BJP will once again emerge as the single largest party in the state. Congress had been the single largest party in the state in 2017. However, it was unable to come into power.
