AMRITSAR: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has now become a national party and will soon replace the congress as the country’s biggest opposition, said party in-charge Raghav Chadha soon after stacking up a spectacular victory in Punjab.
"This is a great day for the party, because today we have become a national party. We are no longer a regional party. Kejriwal is the hope of thousands of people. If the almighty bless us, Arvind Kejriwal may lead the nation one day and become the PM. The party is ready to replace the Congress at the national level,’ he said.
Though the party was launched in 2012, they were able to assume power in another state other than Delhi only now. Their win is after defeating major giants in Punjab, the stronghold of the Congress.
Congress' leaders Charanjit Singh Channi and Navjot Singh Sidhu, former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and Akali Dal's Parkash Singh Badal are far behind.
‘The people of Punjab have seen Kejriwal’s model of governance and they want to try it out. The people of Punjab were kept without the amenities they deserve for five decades. Now they have decided to teach them a lesson. That is what we saw through this victory,’ he said.
Chadha said the party would prepare a blueprint to revive Punjab's economy and restore its glory.
