KANNUR: KPCC president K Sudhakaran MP said that the election results that came out of the five states reflected the local political sentiment. "It is doubtful whether national politics and public issues were discussed. The election results in five states are a testament to the extent to which communal polarization has dominated democracy", Sudhakaran said.

"This is a dangerous trend. The UP election results show that power and money have influenced the election result to some extent. Issues including atrocities against Dalits, women and children, dividing people in the name of caste and religion and vile speeches promoting secularism were not discussed in the UP elections. We should also add here that Uttar Pradesh is a state that has made a very disappointing performance in poverty alleviation", he said.

"The CPM chief minister in Kerala is happy that the BJP is making gains in the elections. The defeat of the Congress is a bad day for secularism. The fact that Modi and Pinarayi Vijayan are happy with the collapse of the Congress should be seen as a dangerous sign for secularism in the country. The goal of the BJP and the CPM is a Congress-free India. The two are working together in Kerala to achieve that. That is why there was happiness in the words of the Chief Minister", Sudhakaran said.

"In the run-up to the elections, the BJP has been deceiving the people by distributing free foodgrains and other promises like Pinarayi Vijayan did in Kerala. The unity of the secular forces must emerge to keep the communal forces and the interested political parties out of power"

"The Congress leadership will study the people's mandate in Punjab and take appropriate action. The Congress is an organization that is used to making strong comebacks by making amends for its failures. In a democracy, victories and defeats are natural. I respect the mandate of the people".
