THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Left Front has started discussions regarding the two vacant Rajya Sabha seats. The final decision regarding the contestants will be taken on March 15. The Left Front will meet at 4 pm that day.
The CPI is adamant that it needs one seat. Meanwhile, the Lok Tantric Janata Dal has also staked a claim for the seat, which will be vacated by Shreyams Kumar. The CPM plans to make a decision before the 15th.
Yesterday, the CPM and the CPI held a discussion at the AKG Center. During the discussion, CPI raised the demand for the seat. The CPM leadership informed that LJD, NCP and Janata Dal-S are also claiming seats. The meeting came to an end after both parties came to an agreement that the matter could be decided in consultation with all.
Election notification will be issued on March 14. Applications can be submitted till March 21. Chief Minister and State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan will leave for Delhi for the politburo meeting to be held tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. The CPI leaders will also travel to Delhi for the National Executive meeting to be held from tomorrow to the 14th. The CPI state executive will also meet on the morning of the 15th. Considering all these, the Front meeting was decided on the 15th.
