THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rs 50 crore has been allotted to Thonnakkal Institute of Advanced Virology (IAV) for implementing modern laboratory systems and for the development of antibodies and vaccines based on nucleic acids, said Finance Minister K N Balagopal. A new state cancer control strategy will also be introduced in Kerala, with community participation, he said.
Rs 81 crore has been allotted for the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) in Thiruvananthapuram. RCC will be upgraded into the state cancer centre.
Rs 14.5 crore has been allotted to Kochi centre.
The second phase of development of Malabar Cancer Centre is in progress at a cost of Rs 427 crore. In addition, Rs 28 crore has been allotted this year.
A project will be implemented to create cancer awareness and improvise treatment facilities with community participation.
Rs 250.7 crore allotted for the development of medical colleges and the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology in Thiruvananthapuram.
