NEW YORK: US Vice President Kamala Harris has been criticized for breaking into laughter when journalists asked her about Ukrainian refugees. The incident occurred on Thursday, during Harris’ joint press conference alongside Polish President Andrzej Duda, in Warsaw.

“And for President Duda, I wanted to know if you think and if you asked the United States to specifically accept more refugees”, asked a journalist in the conference. On hearing the question, Kamala turned to the Polish President to see if he was answering. However, as he was not replying, she burst into laughter.

Later, President Duda confirmed that he had asked Harris to help speed up the consular process so that the Ukrainian refugees with family in the US could stay with them. Both the leaders have held talks on the matter, said Harris. However, she did not answer the question of whether the US would accept a specific number of Ukrainian refugees.

As the video of Kamala Harris exploding into laughter surfaced on social media, numerous people have come out criticizing the leader. "Probably should stifle the laughing on stage when talking about a humanitarian crisis we haven't seen in 80 years," said a user in Twitter.

Similar inappropriate laughing incidents have occurred before as well. Earlier, when some reporters asked her about the Biden administration's withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan last year, Harris had cut them off and was seen giggling.
