THIRUVANANTHAPURM: Health experts have said that the Covid spread and death rates in the state have dropped significantly. However, a majority of health experts are of the opinion that even if the virus is under control, masks should only be avoided slowly. The expert opinion is on account of the Covid surge in other countries.

The decrease in test positivity rates and the number of people undergoing Covid treatment in hospitals in the state is a matter of relief. On Saturday, out of 22,050 tests, 1088 were tested positive. Currently, there are 9530 active cases, of which only 9.5 percent are undergoing hospital treatment. 26,967 people are under observation. Last day, one Covid death was recorded in the state. As of now, 66,793 Covid deaths have been reported. Lately, it is mandatory to wear only the mask. Health experts have opined that masks could be avoided only after the TPR rate drops below one percent.

Meantime, the state health department has warned that the fourth Covid wave will hit in June-July and asked everyone to remain vigilant. The fourth Covid wave should not be taken lightly. Its transmission rate will be higher but, is unlikely to worsen. Death rates will also be less. However, it is necessary to be cautious. People should use masks and sanitizers regularly, warned the authorities.
