NEW DELHI: In the wake of election defeat in five states,Congress working committee meeting on Sunday has dispelled rumours which stated that the dominance of Gandhi family will be questioned and a change will occur at the helm of party. Sonia Gandhi would continue as party president. Working committed will also continue.It was also decided to organize Chintan Shibir after the Parliament session.

The working committee unanimously expressed full confidence on Sonia Gandhi's leadership, said General secretary K. C. Venugopal in a press conference.

It has been rumoured that Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi would resign party positions following election defeat. It is said that Sonia Gandhi told in the meeting that she was ready to make any sacrifice if her family weakened the party. But the leadership says that the majority still have faith in the Gandhi family.

All members unanimously said that they have faith in Sonia Gandhi's leadership and requested her to continue till the next President is elected. Replying to a question, Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said that there were requests that Rahul Gandhi should come forward and lead but president would be selected through elections.

During the four-and-a-half hour long meeting, several issues were discussed clearly. He added that he could not tell the media what each working committee member had said.

G23 leaders meeting has decided to ask Mukul Wasnik to be Congress president at working committee meeting. An explanation in this regard has not been released.
