KOLLAM: Elder sister Santhamma replaces hands of Vasantha. Vasantha lost her hands during a lorry accident, ever since then her sister 61-year old sister Santhamma helps her.
44-year old Vasantha was the youngest of three daughters of late Sreedharan and Lakshmi.Vasantha, an employee of a kiln company at Tholikode RPC, was involved in an accident on October 31, 1992 while traveling in a lorry with bricks. Both hands of Vasantha were crushed in the accident. Her four teeth were erupted. After six months long treatment at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital, her hands had to be amputated above the knee.
Vasantha's accident occurred while she was receiving marriage proposals. Her sister Santhamma helped Vasantha since then. Raveendran, Santhamma's husband, who runs a tea shop, and her children also provides help. As soon as Vasantha wakes up in the morning, Shantamma's will come and help. No need for assistance in the bathroom as it has a pipe set that can be operated on foot.
Shantamma said that she is not ashamed of helping Vasantha. Infact, she is proud to be the hands of her sister.
