THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Those who drive without helmets and seat belts, be beware of cameras on the road.

The cameras installed by the Department of Motor Vehicles on national and state highways and major roads will be unveiled from April 1. With this, the violators will be caught.
726 cameras have been installed on major roads. The cameras were installed by Keltron for Rs 235 crore and five years of maintenance are also their responsibility.

700 cameras, aided by artificial intelligence, are designed to capture violations such as talking on a mobile phone, driving without a helmet or seat belt, triples riding in a two-wheeler, or driving in a manner that endangers others. Even if the two occupants of the front seat of the car violate the rule that they must wear seat belts, they will still be caught.

There are also radar cameras that can detect speeding. Two of them are in Thiruvananthapuram. One in Chakka Bypass and the other in front of Infosys. There are radar cameras in other districts as well. There are also cameras at junctions to detect signal distortion.
