NEW DELHI: The election results in five states, which led to the collapse of all the major political parties, have raised the BJP’s strength to another level. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who came to attend the budget session in Lok Sabha, was given a grand welcome by the party’s MPs. As Modi entered the house, all the BJP MPs gave him a standing ovation, thumped desks and chanted ‘Modi, Modi’ and ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’. Speaker Om Birla was seen smiling in the occasion.

The budget presentation of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is the major parliamentary procedure of the day. The budget will be presented in the afternoon. The Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill will also be presented before the house. Meantime, the opposition parties will raise the issues of the Russia-Ukraine crisis, the rising unemployment in the country and the reduction of provident fund interest rates.
