THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police headquarters has prepared a recommendation to return the charge of C category police stations with less cases to the SIs. During the first Pinarayi government, the charge of stations was transferred from SIs to inspectors. Everywhere CIs are now the SHOs. At the ADGP's meeting, it was suggested that the administration of stations with fewer cases should be handed over to the SIs. Based on this, a study was conducted under the leadership of ADGP Manoj Abraham and a recommendation was prepared to submit it to the government.

It is recommended that SIs be given charge of C-category stations which register less than 500 cases per annum. There are 106 stations in this category. Of these, 60 stations may be handed over to SIs in the first phase. The reforms will be implemented after appointing two SIs in each of the remaining stations. Pocso and organized attack cases should be investigated by inspectors. Serious offenses at stations that are handed over to SIs will be investigated by the DYSPs or the Inspectors of the District Crime Branch.

Inspectors who are relieved of duty at the station will be transferred to the Anti-Terror Squad, District Crime Branch and AR Camp. Their services will also be used to help the investigation of pending cases. The ADGP level committee will held discussions and make a final recommendation to the government. The police headquarters made the recommendation despite opposition from the Officers' Association.
