THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Criminals from other states are coming to Kerala under the guise of workers with fake identity cards, Minister V Sivankutty said in the Assembly. According to the Home Department, two cases have been registered at Venmani police station in Alappuzha district and one at Chandera police station in Kasaragod district.
Police have no information
The police have only nominal information about foreign workers. The police do not bother to investigate the situation as well. Many have fake identity cards that include their own photo and someone else's name and address. There are agencies in other states that make fake identity cards. Many of the SIM cards in their mobile phones may have belonged to Malayalees or were stolen. Foreign workers are only prosecuted when they commit crimes like murder.
From 194 districts
Most of the migrant workers coming to the state are from West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Assam. Most are from West Bengal. Workers come to Kerala from 194 districts in different states.
