KOCHI: The High Court, on Tuesday, will hear an appeal filed by the state government against a single bench order seeking compensation in the case of a pink police officer humiliating an eight-year-old girl.

The government is not liable to pay compensation for the personal conduct of a police officer. The officer did not use abusive language against the girl, stated the appeal. Meantime, the girl’s family said that they will continue the legal battle.

The high court had ordered the government to pay a compensation of Rs 150,000 to the child. An amount of Rs 25,000 was also asked to pay for court expenses.

The incident occurred on August 27, when the eight-year-old girl along with her father were standing in the Moonnumukku junction, to see large cargoes being carried to Thumba VSSC. The pink police officer Rejitha had insulted her and her father in public at Attingal. The officer falsely accused them of stealing her mobile phone from a waiting patrol vehicle and humiliated them in public. The phone was finally recovered from Rejitha’s bag.
