custody-torture

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A custody torture complaint has been lodged in Thiruvananthapuram, once again. Arun Raj, a youth has complained that the Attingal sub inspector had tortured him in custody. Three people, including Arun, were taken into custody, on Monday, following a scuffle in the bar. They were granted bail later.

Arun Raj alleged that the sub inspector had tortured him at the station, after his medical examination. There are torture marks in the youth’s body. However, the police said that he was not beaten and the marks might have incurred in a fight at the bar.

Those who engaged in the fight had fled. The police nabbed me instead. I was only trying to stop the fight, said Arun. He has sought treatment at a private hospital at Valiyakunnu.

Meantime, the government has transferred the Thiruvallom custodial death case to the Central Bureau of investigation (CBI). Suresh, who was arrested in the case of assaulting a couple, was killed in custody. The post-mortem report had stated heart attack as the cause of death.
