NEW DELHI: Following the party's dismal performance in the assembly elections in the five states, Congress president Sonia Gandhi has asked Congress presidents of the five states to step down from their posts. It was Randeep Singh Surjewala who informed this through Twitter.

'Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi has asked the PCC Presidents of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa & Manipur to put in their resignations in order to facilitate reorganisation of PCCs,' Surjewala wrote on his Twitter page.

Within minutes of Surjewala's tweet, Goa and Uttarakhand state presidents announced their resignation.
