THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the price of chicken rising sharply in the state, the prices of non-veg dishes are soaring high in many top restaurants. Meanwhile, the government systems have failed in controlling prices. The price of chicken has gone up in the name of a hike in the price of chicken feed.

The price of chicken in Thiruvananthapuram yesterday was between Rs 165 and Rs 175. In some districts, it has crossed 180. This means that there has been an increase of more than 20 per cent in two weeks. As a result, some restaurants have increased the prices of chicken dishes by 30 to 50 percent. The price of chicken biryani in the city has gone up from Rs 180 to Rs 250. Although the price of eggs has fallen, the price of egg biryani went up from Rs 120 to Rs 140.

The prices of Arabian and Chinese dishes have also gone up. The price of chilli chicken has gone up to Rs 180-200. The prices of dishes will not change even if the price of meat comes down. Although the price of mutton has come down slightly, some restaurants have raised the price of mutton biryani above Rs 300.

At the same time, some hotels haven't increased the price of their dishes at all. Hoteliers are saying that the rise in oil prices has also affected them.
