CHENNAI: Notorious criminal who was accused in 80 cases in Tamil Nadu and Kerala was shot dead by police. Neeravi Murugan, a native of Puthiyambathur in Thoothukudi, was shot dead during a police encounter. Murugan was killed at Kalankadu Nankuneri in Tirunelveli. There are cases against him in various states including Kerala,Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat.

A special team of police had arrived to investigate a robbery case on an empty road in Kalankadu.The investigation was based on a robbery case in Palani. While trying to catch Murugan, he tried to stab a policemen with a weapon. The group then open fired on him. Police explained that he was shot because he tried to attack police. He was shot in the chest. In the last three months, three criminals have been killed in encounters by Tamil Nadu police. Neeravi Murugan has been charged with various offenses including robbery, theft and murder.
