THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that isolated areas in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts are likely to receive showers with thunderstorms in the next three hours. The IMD also predicted winds of up to 40 kmph. A yellow alert has been issued in Kollam and Pathanamthitta districts of the state. The weathermen also warned that a cyclone is likely to develop over the Bay of Bengal. The cyclone, which is expected to form near the Andaman coast, is likely to touch the Bangladesh-Myanmar coast by March 23.

The state will continue to receive average rainfall for the next few days. With the onset of rains, the temperature has dropped to normal in several areas that experienced severe heat in the last few days.

Palakkad recorded the highest temperature in the state during the last 24 hours- 37.2 degrees Celsius.
