THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: "The SFI activists brutally attacked me without even considering that I was a woman," Safna Yakub, KSU unit president of the Law College, said to Kerala Kaumudi. Safna, who is undergoing treatment at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital, said that the SFI activists came to the campus targetting her and that she was surrounded by SFI activists when she was leaving the college at 8.30 pm after the union inauguration.
"They pushed me down and dragged me along the road. A lot of people attacked me as a group. I was not able to identify those who hit me. Although police were present on the campus, they did not come to rescue me. Later, I realised that many of those who attacked me had used drugs. KSU workers who came to save me were also attacked," she said. Safna said that many KSU woman activists in the college had faced similar bad experiences.
"SFI activists from outside the college were also present on the campus on the night of the union inauguration. This is not the first such experience in Law college. Since I am a KSU activist, SFI activists used to misbehave with me from the first year. Many used to harass me using obscene language and indecent words. Some even threatened me not to remain in KSU. The SFI activists brutally beat me and another girl during the election campaign for KSU," she added. Safna also revealed that the SFI had thrown paint on her body while she was writing on the wall for the election campaign.
"We had lodged complaints with the college authorities whenever the SFI activists attacked us. However, authorities did not take any action against them. Although we have handed over complaints against SFI activists to the Museum police station, no action has been taken so far," Safna said. Earlier, video footage of the SFI attack on Safna on Tuesday night had surfaced online.
