KUMILY: A four-member team, including a retired SI from the Kerala Police, took a boat trip with the Tamil Nadu Executive Engineer at the Mullaperiyar Dam, a high security zone inaccessible to the public. Mullaperiyar police have registered a case following a controversy over a boat trip in Tamil Nadu on Sunday. A case has been registered against retired SIs Rahim and Abdul Salam, Delhi Police officer John Varghese and his son Varghese John for visiting without permission.

Rahim and Abdul Salam knew the Tamil Nadu engineer because they were from Kumily and had worked there while in service. The visitors were identified by checking the CCTV footage in Thekkady. Action may be taken against the officials.

Earlier, Kerala Police had denied entry to the dam to Dean Kuriakose MP and others citing security reasons. The failure on the part of the Kerala Police has strengthened Tamil Nadu's persistent demand for the deployment of Central Forces for the security of the dam.
