THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Oil companies, including Indian Oil Corporation, have hiked diesel prices by Rs 21.10 per litre for bulk purchasers. On February 17, the price was raised by Rs 6.78. The total hike is now Rs. 27.88. KSRTC has been hit hardest by the oil company's decision. The Transport Department has decided to approach the High Court against the unjust price hike.
KSRTC mainly buys diesel from Indian Oil Corporation. With the increase in February, KSRTC stopped bulk purchasing and started refueling from private pumps.
With the current price hike, large consumers will have to pay Rs 121.36 per litre of diesel. According to this, KSRTC will have to find an additional Rs 75 lakh to Rs 84 lakh per day for diesel.
Oil companies are raising prices for large consumers without an increase in retail oil prices. This is an indication that the retail price will also increase soon.
Diesel retail price (Thiruvananthapuram) is Rs 93.47 / litre
The bulk purchase price is Rs 121.36 / litre
