KOCHI: The High Court on Thursday will pronounce the verdict on the plea filed by the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) seeking internal complaint redressal cells at cinema shooting locations. The plea will be heard by a division bench headed by the chief justice.
The women’s collective had approached the high court seeking internal complaint redressal cells at cinema shooting locations in 2018, following the assault on the actress. The State Women’s Commission had earlier informed the court that the WCC’s demand was justified. The high court had made the commission a party in the plea on January 31.
The demand for a legislation to ensure the safety of women working in the Malayalam film industry is justified, said Culture Minister Saji Cheriyan. A law will be formulated soon after studying the Adoor Gopalakrishnan committee report and Justice Hema committee report. Women often had to face a lot of exploitation in the film industry, he added.
