THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The congress leadership in the state is dissatisfied with the move to field leaders unfamiliar to the state leadership or activists. A section of the leadership opines that it would not be beneficial in even discussing the names of such people. K Sudhakaran made his stand clear amidst reports of a move to send AICC secretary Sreenivasan Krishnan from Kerala to the Rajya Sabha. Srinivasan, who was appointed as an officer on special duty when K Karunakaran was the union minister, later turned a confidante to the Gandhi family.
It has been indicated that K Sudhakaran announcing that the name of M Liju is under active consideration, is to block this candidate. However, the leaders explained that the state leadership wants to field candidates who are more youthful and experienced than the youth. Though it was hinted that the minority community would be given a chance, the leadership is now of the view that such considerations will lead to unnecessary discussions. KPCC chief K Sudhakaran will be meeting Congress chief Sonia Gandhi today to discuss the Rajya Sabha candidate.
K Muraleedharan wrote a letter to Sonia Gandhi indirectly against M Liju saying that those who lost in the polls should not be considered and that they should go and work in their respective constituencies. He said those able to partake in discussions in a constructive manner and having proficiency in language should be considered.
